Frequently Asked Questions

Is Eastcoast Fireworks located in my area?

If you can reach your event site, so can we. We operate, in addition to our headquarters in Central Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.  Eastcoast Fireworks and Fire & Rescue New Zealand as a Non-Government Fire Service offers a nationwide service which includes well-trained and certified ERMA Approved Handlers and Pyrotechnicians that strive to deliver unique and memorable shows for every event.

I want a fireworks display for an upcoming event. What’s my first step?

It’s easy. The first step is to review and complete the site plan--you can do this on your own or with our help.  Contact us to get in touch with our Approved Handler and Pyrotechnician to go over this with you. It is best to do this at least six weeks before your event. After we collect all of your information on the site plan, we’ll promptly send you a clear, detailed proposal, including a cost quotation. After we’ve had a chance to review it, one of our staff will follow up by phone or email to help you plan a successful fireworks display. Or, you can contact us with any questions about your event.

How much space do I need for a fireworks display?

We can present safe, exciting fireworks displays in surprisingly small spaces — even indoor locations. An Eastcoast Fireworks Approved Handler will custom-design your fireworks show to fit such factors as budget, audience size, location, terrain, water features, traffic, and nearby structures. The Eastcoast Fireworks site plan form will help us come up with the right solution for you. It includes the legal distances for indoor and outdoor displays according to the ERMA Regulations.

What’s your lead time?

While we have a reputation for flexibility and quick response, we can make the most of your budget — and offer you the widest range of options — if you contact us at least six weeks before the day of the show.  Summer is the busy season for fireworks, so talk to us as early as possible for events like Guy Fawkes, Matariki (Māori New Year) celebrations. Got a tight deadline? Call 06 858 5120, and we’ll help you come up with a solution.

Can you produce fireworks displays indoors?

Yes, our Approved Handler has produced numerous displays in indoor spaces. Our close proximity pyrotechnics are engineered for safe indoor use, even close to audiences and interior structures.

What does a fireworks programme cost?

We are Merchants of Thrill, not Merchants of Time.  There is a tendency to try and spread a small budget much too far in the mistaken belief that "times equals value".  It is important to realise that there is no direct relationship between cost and duration.  Fireworks displays are best appreciated if the firing is brisk without blank pauses. It's not duration that counts, but how spectacular the display is.

A fireworks display is composed of three parts: Opening, Body, and Grand Finale. A basic fireworks display consists of just the Body and Grand Finale, with an average length of 2 - 3 minutes.  A fully fledged fireworks display will contain all three parts and will average about 3 – 6 minutes in length.

We create excitement and entertainment for a wide variety of budgets. Just use our site plan to describe your site, or contact us to discuss your needs and ask questions. After you approve our detailed estimate, we’ll custom-design the right show for your event.

What about insurance?

Your contract with us includes standard $1 million insurance coverage.

Who will set up and run my display?

Your contract with us provides a highly trained, licensed professional team of pyrotechnicians. They will set up your display, fire it, and clean up after the show.

How safe are fireworks?

Very safe. We comply strictly with all Legislation and ERMA and OSH safety regulations, and we work hard to keep environmental impact to a minimum. For indoor shows, our close proximity pyrotechnics are engineered to be safe even close to audiences and interior structures.

Besides fireworks, what else does Eastcoast Fireworks offer?

In addition to outdoor and indoor fireworks, we supply safe close proximity fireworks and spectacular special effects such as confetti blasted 100 feet in the air, multi-coloured streamers, flame effects, fog, smoke and others.

How do I become a qualified Pyrotechnician?

We offer training, free of charge, to individuals interested in becoming NZQA certified Pyrotechnicians. Our courses are also offered to fire department personnel and other professionals who would like to become more involved in the setup and display of fireworks. Our two day skill development workshops cover the basic knowledge, legislative and practical skills needed to shoot fireworks safely and effectively
